TEAM FORMATION STRATEGIES AND JOB SATISFACTION IN DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS IN BENIN CITY

The study examined the effect of team formation strategies on job satisfaction of employees in deposit money banks in Benin City. Specifically, the study determined the effect of skill-based, demographic based, and self-selection team formation strategies on the job satisfaction of the employees. The study adopted a correlational survey research design. The population of the study was made of employees from three deposit money banks in Benin City. The sample size was determined using the Yamane‘s formular. Questionnaire was the main research instrument. The collected data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics through SPSS. It was revealed that skill-based, demographic-based team strategies positively and significantly influenced job satisfaction. It was also revealed that self-selection team strategy had positive but not significant effect on the job satisfaction of the employees. The findings of the study underscore the role of having an effective team to improve the job satisfaction of the employees. It has also shown that some team formation strategies are more effective than the others in the banking sector. The study therefore recommended among others that the bank should prioritise skill-based team formation strategies. They should also make use of demographic-based team formation strategies.
