This study presents an outline of the history of management and his contributorsā. It covers the early philosophical standpoint that set the framework for the development of management ideas from the pre-industrial evolution through the era of fast economic growth. It looks at the early philosophical position that served as the starting point for the construction of management ideas from the time before the industrial evolution up until the period of quick economic growth. The paper is solely qualitative and a review of instant literature. However, with the ever-rapid globalisation and the increasing importance of scientific and technological know-how, which is necessary in current management practices, management has become more diverse in recent years. The emphasis has evolved from behavioural science to organisational architecture, quality assurance, and the most recent contingency strategy. The findings revealed evidence of the practice of western management theories in Nigerian businesses. The study found that management practice in Nigeria can be enhanced if peculiar socio-cultural elements are given appropriate consideration in the implementation of management approaches.
